Champleve
Artist
Dianne Brooks
Medium
Jewelry - Enamel On Silver Or Copper
Description
Champleve means "raised field" in French. An image is multi-dimensional making metal "walls" to contain the enamel. In the sunset piece (top left), the silver with the cattails, horizon, and deckled frame were sawed out and soldered to the backing piece of silver. The ring for the sun was also soldered on. The waves in the ring (right) and the black band were etched deeply into the silver. The outlines of trees, rocks and waterfalls (lower left) were molded into precious metal clay (silver) and fired. The enamel is then laid into the recesses and fired.
